The spark gap is the heart of the Lakhovsky Multi-Wave Oscillator (MWO) because it essentially acts as a main switch of the primary tank circuit. Adjustable distance between the electrodes determines the voltage potential on the output of the Lakhovsky MWO and number of impulses per second. Due to its non-linear behaviour, it also serves the purpose of introducing additional noise (randomness) into the frequency content of the signal produced by MWO. The spark gap must be capable of fast spark quenching action and repeatability of the adjustment.
The improved Lakhovsky Multi-Wave Oscillator V-Type Spark Gap Replica
This is the enhanced version of the V-type quenched spark gap used in the original Lakhovsky Multiple Wave Oscillator models BV1 and BV2. This spark gap is the critical component of Lakhovsky Multiple Wave Oscillator replicas that we make to order.
Four simultaneously adjustable spark gaps that use 30 mm tungsten (wolfram) electrodes 3.2 mm in diameter. The spark gap performance is improved with a high-quality industrial fan with airflow of 59 m3/h that proved to be crucial during extended periods of operation to keep the temperature between 50-55 °C and to vent out the excess ozone from the Lakhovsky Multiple Wave Oscillator enclosure.

The original design was enhanced in several ways:
- The improved threaded mechanism ensures smoother movement and low wear of the material.
- Electrode holders are designed for easy replacement of electrodes without the necessity for disassembling.
- The diameter of the tungsten electrodes is modified to 3.4 mm so that standard readily available welding electrodes can be used.
